CANCELED BY ARTIST - - Oh Freedom Over Me Starring Cheryl Albright
Cheryl Albright shares her life story and her musical journey to overcome fear and prejudice. She highlights the lives and accomplishments of five African-American women vocalist and their historical journeys to freedom during turbulent times, in whose footsteps Cheryl stepped to achieve her own destiny. The legendary artists she represents in the performance include Sissieretta Matilda Jones, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, and Nina Simone. Their ancestral healing power in song demonstrates how music can and did lift the spirit, give hope to the soul and transformed the hearts and consciousness of our nation. They conquered a double prejudice against women performers and against performers of color in some instances outlawed from performing openly. Yet their music and musical styling influenced American culture to enter the mainstream and break barriers of fear, creating understanding and acceptance.
