Lift Every Voice Book Club: April Meeting
Welcome to Lift Every Voice Book Club, an engaging group of children's librarians, teachers and parents who will meet to discuss outstanding works of children's literature! Together, we will read everything from picture books and middle readers, to graphic novels and YA. Our goal is to find diverse voices that speak to our school communities, and to share ideas about how to reach and inspire the children we serve.
We are thrilled to announce a very special guest for our first meeting. Thanhhà Lai, author of the award-winning novel in verse Inside Out and Back Again, will join us to discuss her YA debut, Butterfly Yellow, which Jennifer Donnelly calls "searingly beautiful...a radiant pearl of a book." John Scott, lower school librarian at Friends School of Baltimore, will moderate the conversation. Please come prepared to discuss the book and engage with Thanhhà.
After our first two meetings in April and May, the book club will meet every other month starting in September. A rotating roster of hosts will moderate the discussions and we will occasionally have a guest author. Books will be nominated and chosen by members. We will discuss the selection criteria at the April meeting.
Members are expected to read the book before the meeting. Books are available at The Ivy Bookshop and Bird in Hand. Mention the book club and receive the 15% educator discount.
We will serve light snacks. Soft drinks, wine and beer will be available for purchase.
Hope to see you in April!
