MONDO MEYER! An evening dedicated to Russ Meyer
MONDO MEYER! RUSS MEYER-THEMED DISCUSSION, MOVIE, AND BURLESQUE AT PHILAMOCA
On Saturday, September 21, PhilaMOCA (Best of Philly 2013 Best Performance Venue) will host an entire evening dedicated to legendary filmmaker Russ "King of the Nudies" Meyer. The evening will be comprised of a screening of Meyer's 1975 classic SUPERVIXENS followed by a discussion with personal friend of Meyer's Irv Slifkin, and topped off with a full Meyer-themed burlesque show courtesy of Miss Rose's Sexploitation Follies. The event is co-presented by Miss Rose's Sexploitation Follies and Cinedelphia.com.
SUPERVIXENS (1975) marked Meyer's return to the world of big bosoms following his unsuccessful attempts at a Hollywood drama (1971's THE SEVEN MINUTES) and a blaxploitation period piece (1973's BLACK SNAKE). This sexploitation classic focuses on the misadventures of a gas station attendant and his relationships with a series of well-endowed women who all have the word "Super" in their given name (SuperAngel, SuperSoul, SuperVixen, et al.)
Philadelphia native Irv Slifkin is the author of FILMADELPHIA, the definitive guide to movies shot in Philadelphia, and VIDEOHOUND'S GROOVY MOVIES: FAR-OUT FILMS OF THE PSYCHEDLIC ERA. He was a personal friend of Russ Meyer's and will share amusing anecdotes of their time spent together.
Movie-themed burlesque show Miss Rose's Sexploitation Follies will be providing the live entertainment for the evening and will feature performers Hayley Jane, Ginger Leigh, Kiki Berlin, and Miss Rose herself. The Follies pack the house at PhilaMOCA every two months, so much so that their most recent Tarantino-themed installment demanded two performances on the same evening. Audiences thrill at the wild costumes, humorous references, and unexpected surprises that have elevated Miss Rose's events to the top of Philadelphia's burlesque scene.
Schedule: 7:00 PM : SUPERVIXENS (1975) 9:30 PM : Discussion with Irv Slifkin 10:00 PM : Burlesque show
Doors open at 6:30. Admission is $12.
