Blood at the Root is a choreopoetic play based on the real life-case of The Jena Six. Six black teenage boys in Louisiana were initially charged with attempted murder for a schoolyard fight that was provoked by three nooses being hung on a school tree that only white students sat under. This event galvanized one of the nation's first large scale, televised protests in this small Louisiana town. In this fictitious adaptation, six high school students struggle to navigate the world of racism, sexuality, socio-economic status, power, privilege, and the ultimate miscarriage of justice. Follow along and bear witness to how the decisions and connections they make shape their political identities.
