VERMONT JAZZ CENTER SEXTET at NEXT STAGE
VERMONT JAZZ CENTER SEXTET at NEXT STAGE
PUTNEY - Next Stage Arts Project continues its bimonthly Local Music & Food series in the Next Stage Cafe on Friday, March 20, pairing the Vermont Jazz Center Sextet and Cai's Dim Sum Catering. Dinner will be available starting at 6:00 pm, and the music starts at 7:00 pm.
The Vermont Jazz Center Sextet is the VJCs community outreach ensemble. Through weekly rehearsals, the group has developed programs which are performed in schools, assisted-living homes and libraries, bringing live jazz into less formal settings. Through these performances and clinics, people who might not attend concerts at the VJC are given the opportunity to hear and learn about the music of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Art Blakey and others, with original music and arrangements often written by members of the ensemble. The members of the VJC Sextet are Rob Freeberg, trumpet; Bill Ballard, alto saxophone; Jim Heffron, tenor saxophone; Cathy Martin, piano; Jay Elfenbein, bass and Mike Patek, drums.
Cai's Dim Sum Catering provides Sichuan and Shanghai cuisine with a locally sourced Vermont touch by Artist/Taiji Master/Chef Cai Xi and Gallerist/Editor-Publisher/Second Chef Adam Silver. This dinner at Next Stage includes stir-fried chicken with vegetables, turmeric stir-fried rice noodles with greens and tofu, jasmine rice, pork/chive and kale/tofu dumplings, tulsi tea with rose and dipping sauces. There will be vegan and gluten-free options, and seconds available on some items. Admission is $10, and dinner is available for $20. Advance tickets are available online at nextstagearts.org. The Next Stage Cafe offers a beer/wine cash bar. Next Stage is located at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney, VT. For information, call 802-387-0102 or visit www.nextstagearts.org.
