Low Carbon Living / Home Permaculture
This event is for anyone, concerned about the climate emergency and would like to feel empowered to do something in there own lives, homes and communities. Its also for anyone with a home who would like more ideas on how to apply permaculture. Its also for anyone who loves Nature and would like to uncover a way humans can be part of it through and after the increasingly uncertain times. Overall this course will be an excellent introduction to Permaculture.
When: There are 3 three hour sessions on the first Monday evenings of March, April and May 6 to 9pm. You can do one or all three. Where: Located in the centre of Canterbury, a short work from the bus station and slightly further from Canterbury East train station.There are bike racks and free parking.
More about the Course: This is applied Permaculture design where we will be covering ethics, resilient living principles and patterns. It has evolved over the last two years inspired by David Holmgren's (Permaculture co-originator) RetroSuburbia. The Downshifter's Guide to a Resilient Future. In response to the Climate emergency which is really a global life emergency.
All evenings will include An overview and introduction to Low Carbon Living- Don't panic! Whats the problem? An overview of tools to apply. With an emphasis on low cost and easy to implement take home ideas solutions. A look at the 3 Bs. Systems thinking though Permaculture inspired values, principles and patterns. Evening 1. The Behavioural Field: Patterns of Decision and Action and includes how we make beneficial connections. This is the peoplecare section. Arguably the key to change is how we behave. We will look at effective eco-anxiety tools. We will explore Permaculture Ethics for resilient living.
Evening 2. Biological Field: Patterns of life and growth. This explores effective land and resource use at home. We will include growing food, regenerating the land, increasing wildlife and rewilding as well as the importance of deepening our relationship with the natural world. And, of course how this helps us lower our carbon footprint. We will explore Permaculture Principles for resilient living.
Evening 3. Built Field: Patterns of Human Habitats. This looks at the built environment and includes eco-retrofitting your home. We will explore Permaculture Patterns for resilient living.
