The Young Womens Chorus performs with special guest artist Geraldine Walther, former principal violist with the San Francisco Symphony and now member of the Takács Quartet. The programs theme focuses on the timely message of searching for the truth. The concert encourages us to search our hearts, to calm our minds, to refrain from gossip, to learn from the past, to refresh ourselves in nature, and to act with kindness. Music will include selections by Hildegard von Bingen, Abbie Betinis, Caroline Shaw, Gwyneth Walker, Andrea Ramsey, Sean Ivory, Daniel Hall, and Larry Nickel.
The Young Womens Chorus of San Francisco is the premier ensemble of the Young Womens Choral Projects. The Chorus, comprised of singers ages 11-18, has been praised for its beauty of sound, stellar musicianship, and dynamic programming. Acclaimed in the American Record Guide for its refined and beautifully controlled singing, the Young Womens Chorus has also won many competitive awards including the American Prize in Choral Performance; the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award from Chorus America and American Composers Forum; and the ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award. The ensemble has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Jake Heggie, Frederica von Stade, Christine Brewer, Kronos Quartet, Kitka, Charles Dutoit, EsaPekka Salonen and others, and is regularly invited to sing with the San Francisco Symphony and Berkeleys Cal Performances. Performing repertoire from early music to contemporary selections, the Chorus regularly commissions new works for young womens voices from leading composers. The Chorus annually performs a professional series of concerts in the Bay Area, and tours either nationally or internationally, most recently making its Carnegie Hall debut in June 2018.
