Dynamic Directions-Dancing Through The Ceiling
Space holder: Although not commonly known outside the world of dance, women choreographers working in the field of ballet are a distinctly underserved community. To address this imbalance, in 2001 Artistic Director Graham Lustig initiated a program in New Jersey with the American Repertory Ballet entitled Dancing Through The Ceiling -- identifying the glass ceiling that appears to exist for women in the world of ballet. In subsequent seasons there have been great strides to bring about change to this imbalance and now many dance companies have provided more opportunities for ballet-based women choreographers.
