Each month, the Maine Songwriters Association presents Songwriters on Stage, a showcase of some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. Its an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. This installment will feature Jud Caswell, Carole Wise, Doug Kolmar, and Emerging Artist Oliver Rhodes.
Jud Caswell
Maine singer/songwriter Jud Caswell has a keen eye for detail, a head full of far-away, and a heart full of home. In 2006 he burst on the national scene,winning the legendary Kerrville New Folk competition. His songs have been taught at Berklee, recorded by Judy Collins, and named #4 Song of the Decadeby New Yorks WFUV.
Carole Wise
For over 50 years Caroles musical journey has spanned genres,coasts and venues. From backup singer to center stage, she always believed herwalk would lead to where she is supposed to be. Caroles musical journey creates a tapestry woven of her struggles and discipline, integrity and gratitude. The rapport with her audience is easy and intimate, fluid and soulful.
Doug Kolmar
Known for wryly observant lyrics, emotionally complex stories, anda sound both rootsy and sophisticated, Doug Kolmar has been a fixture inMaines songwriter community since arriving from the NYC area in 2002. An award-winning writer, his songs have been recognized by the New England Songwriter awards, Maine Songwriters Association and Just Plain Folks Music Awards.
Emerging Artist
Oliver Rhodes is a Brunswick, Maine native who, after practicing fingerstyle acoustic guitar, and singing baritone for years, only recently started writing original songs. Sofar, his songs focus mainly on absurd comedy and whimsical angst. His performances with tranquil melodies, and unique character perspectives are consistently entertaining.Oliver Rhodes is currently finding new ways to describe himself in short biography er autobiography.
