Fading Splendour
English Music from the End of Empire
At its height, the British Empire was the largest empire in history. This concert showcases music written during the final years of England's faded glory. The concert will feature music by Howells, Wood, Stanford, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and others. The central work in the program is Vaughan Williams' Mass in G Minor. This work was written in 1921 and is supremely English in style. This moving work was dedicated to Gustav Holst, whose music is also featured in the concert.
