Randy Hathaway and Debra Hardy Smith
THIS SHOW IS FRIDAY, JUNE 5!
Soprano Singer Debra Hardy Smith and Classical Composer Randy Hathaway will be sharing the stage to present 2 programs of traditional classical music and original compositions.
Debra Hardy Smith has been an active Soprano in her hometown of Yakima as well as Anchorage Alaska. She was the founder and director of the Yakima Valley Light Opera Company with productions at the Seasons, Yakima Museum and festive dinner show performances with her troupe at the Greystone restaurant. Singing with the Anchorage Civic Opera Company, she took on many vocal roles in the operas musicals and private soirees for Governors and Senators. Debra has also been an active voice teacher in the Valley with her students regularly winning competitions through NATS and acceptances to sing with the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Debra will be singing some of her favorite pieces of vocal music by Puccini, Dvorak, Delibes and more. Soprano singer Shannon Ruiz will collaborate with Debra on selected duets with pianists Anne Schilperoort and Darin Kaschmitter accompanying throughout. Debra will also be performing voice and guitar duets by Randy Hathaway on his program.
Randy Hathaways music generally focuses around the classical guitar. However, Randy has unequally paired the guitar in various ensemble formats with strings, winds and voices. In 2017, Randy released a double CD of his compositions, Classical Guitar In America, which has received generous radio play across the US, Canada and the UK as well as national and international reviews. Editor Jesse Paliotto of The Guitar Journal wrote...Classical Guitar In America feels like an Opus. With a capitol O. An artistic work on a large scale. Its serious, its broad, its meticulous. And its a joy to know that there are artists conducting work with this type of quality and vision.
Randy will showcase his new work, Urban Dance, for English Horn, Classical Guitar and Dance performed by the New American Ensemble. He will also present his new composition, Concord, for solo Piano. With the lovely Soprano Debra Hardy Smith in the house, Randy will feature a selection of voice and guitar duets as well as a couple other compositions from his album.
Randys composition, Urban Dance and his collaboration with the New American Ensemble is supported, in part, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
