Profs & Pints: Super Tuesday and Beyond
Profs and Pints presents: Super Tuesday and Beyond, a look at where the Democratic primaries stand and are headed, with David Barker, director of American Universitys Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies. The contest to determine the Democratic nominee to face President Trump is a muddled mess, and may remain that way at least until March 3rd, Super Tuesday, when 14 states and over a third of all delegates will choose whom to back. Which candidate or candidates are best positioned to remain standing? Why? And what will it mean for the general election, the future of the Democratic party, and the future of the country? Come hear such questions tackled by Professor David Barker, a professor of government at American University who has spent over 20 years analyzing presidential nominations and elections and previously has given several great Profs and Pints talks on politics in the United States. Hell discuss the nomination battle up to that point and give an overview of the specific states in play on Super Tuesday and the rules that structure those contests. Hell look at the role that late-entrant Michael Bloomberg and his unlimited war chest will play, the odds of the Democrats eventually having a brokered convention, and the Democrats prospects of defeating President Trump in November. Hell also speculate on the future dynamics of political conflict in the United States depending on who captures the nomination. Never shy with predictions, Professor Barkers perspective on such matters might surprise or even provoke you. (Advance tickets: $12. Doors: $15, save $2 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later. Please allow yourself time to place any orders and get seated and settled in.)
