Director Statement "Mazloom" was a product of searching for the root of why we inhabit and perpetuate toxic patterns in regards to sexual abuse. A repressed memory, upon coming into awareness, can suddenly reveal a seed planted decades ago; so corrupt, so twisted, that a person has no choice but to accept it and in-act it. In the South Asian community it is often said, that it is more shameful to talk about the abuse, than the abuse itself. My hope is that with this film, we can start a long awaited conversation, in any community, race, gender, religion - And begin healing those beliefs that no longer serve us. It is important to know that no children were harmed or put in harmful situations for the making of this film. Everything filmed was under the consent of all actors as well as the parent's of the child actors. We are unbelievably grateful for their support and encouragement, as well as their understanding, that Mazloom is shot from Zara's perspective and when you endure abuse as a child, your memories take shape from that level of mental development. Therefore it was important to explore the moments and memories Zara endures during her abuse. This level of courage from our team, has been the greatest honor to be a part of.

Private Screening : MAZLOOM
Sky Creature Productions invites you the private screening of MAZLOOM at the Windmill Arts Center. At 7:30, we will be serving chai, cocktails and appetizers. The film is presented at 8:15, followed by an introduction of the cast and crew, and a short Q & A.

About the film:

Zara, a 10 year old Pakistani girl and her family, living in America, are invited to visit her fathers business partners house for the weekend. Immersed in the cultural landscape of this strange new place, whilst grappling with her new found interest in the opposite sex, Zara meets and connects with 28 year old, Anoj. In a sudden turn of events, Anoj sexually assaults Zara. Deepening the damage more, Anojs mother not only bears witness to the act, but she encourages it.
Now at a crossroads, Zara struggles with upholding the rules set into motion by cultural propriety and status versus speaking openly about the torment of being destroyed at such a fragile age.
