Christa Couture with Jess Hill
Co-presented by Full Circle: First Nations Performance.
Prairie-raised, award-winning, Cree/Scandinavian, queer, songwriter, non-fiction writer, and broadcaster Christa Couture is releasing her seventh record, and her first entirely piano-based project, Safe Harbour. Over the course of her acclaimed career, Couture has become known as an expert in loss: singing, speaking and writing about the childhood cancer that led to the amputation of her left leg, abortion, divorce, and the tragic deaths of her two infant sons. But Safe Harbour tells a different story.
Jess Hill is a storyteller whose delicately constructed lyrical worlds captivate, standing firmly with her blues-draped compositions. Her music will smash your heart, pinch you in your sweetest nerves, give pause to the present and sing you to sleep all in one gently fierce moment. A phenomenal stage performer in every way, Jess Hill invites her audience to join her in her own realm. With a voice like the sound of a well-rosined bow across your heartstrings, she can pull a room of strangers into her palm, crushing them with stinging emotions and releasing them reborn into the night.
Full Circle: First Nations Performance is a non-profit society and registered charity that creates opportunities for Indigenous artists. Margo Kane (Cree/Saulteaux), an interdisciplinary artist and Indigenous arts leader, founded Full Circle in 1992. Upon establishing Full Circle, Kane's vision was to make a profound contribution to the development of Indigenous performance in Canada.
