Sacred Baroque
This spring, Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble will present two concerts of beautiful sacred Baroque music, accompanied by the fabulous Jubilate Baroque Orchestra on period instruments. Performances will feature Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's exquisite and beloved Stabat Mater, a 12-movement setting of the 13th century hymn to the Virgin Mary. Also on the program are movements from Johann Adolf Hasse's Miserere, the motet, Salve Regina by Renaissance master, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and the Concerto Armonico #5 by Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer, originally attributed to Pergolesi.
Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble, directed by Mitchell Covington, is dedicated to musical excellence in the performance of both new and innovative music as well as treasured repertoire within the classical choral tradition. Now in its 28th year, Voci has won high praise from critics and choral musicians alike for its lush, ethereal quality.
