The Marty Williams Quartet ( Long Time Comin )
Bay Area Jazz Jewel Marty Williams to Play Rare Santa Cruz Concert On Saturday, March 21, take a musical journey with The Marty Williams Quartet as they bring more than 40 years of jazz mastery and interpretation to the Kuumbwa Jazz stage in Santa Cruz, California. Mr. Williams quartet offers surprises and delights for jazz aficionados and casual music fans alike. With Mr. Williams making his home in Half Moon Bay, 60 miles north of Santa Cruz, Marty Williams and Friends have enthralled audiences throughout the Bay Area since the 1980s. Cafe Society owner and music producer Harpo Marx confided "I'm concerned a whole new audience is going to discover Marty. He's been our hidden treasure up in Half Moon Bay for decades. People are in for a real treat." Mr. Williams will be joined by world-class jazz musicians Eric Swinderman on guitar, Jack Dorsey on drums, and Jim Kerwin on bass. Mr. Swinderman, one of the Bay Areas premier guitar players, is well known through his work with the dynamic jazz and blues singer, Brenda Boykin. Mr. Dorsey, a native New Yorker who arrived on the San Francisco music scene in 1968, has drummed internationally with diverse artists and recorded numerous television theme scores and motion picture soundtracks. Mr. Kerwin, considered one of the best string bass players in the country, has performed with bluegrass greats Red Allen and Del McCoury and has played at Carnegie Hall with Stephane Grappelli and YoYo Ma. I've suffered devastating loss and a miraculous second chance at life in my 60s. My music gives me a way of sharing that pain and joy with my audience. I'm always moved by how we connect as fellow human beings through the shared experience of listening to the sounds of skins, keys, strings, and voice.
