The title of Grayson Capps' latest long-player, Rott N Roll, originated in New Orleans--a phrase used by fans to describe the raw energy of songs that mix backwoods rock, southern soul and country blues with tales of prostitutes, alcoholics, drifters and paranoia. Indeed, on the fourth album of the southern troubadour's career, Grayson and his band, The Stumpknockers, burn harder than ever. Raucous numbers like Big Black Buzzard, Sun Dont Shine On Willy and Going Back To The Country are instant classics in his repertoire. A more introspective side is also displayed on songs like Arrowhead and Guitar. Having drawn comparisons over the last few years to the likes of Tom Waits, Townes Van Zandt and Drive By Truckers, Rott N Roll proves that Graysons vision is ultimately as singular as those to who hes compared. In the midst of an East Coast tour in support of their new album, Grayson Capps & The Stumpknockers appear "live" at The Lizard Lounge in Boston, MA on Wednesday, September 24. "Grayson Capps is part country singer, part bluesman, part preacher, part vagabond and part poet." - Hear Ya Blog
"Grayson Capps & The Stumpknockers play knock-down-drag-out-whiskey-laced rock and roll as if it were the last call for their souls to be saved." - Swampland
"If you like your music, rough, raw and honest, accompanied by lyrics that are a mix of poetry, bourbon, humor, and empathy, than you need to listen to Grayson Capps. Rott 'N' Roll will make you realize that you've never actually heard Southern rock before - everything else was just a pale imitation of this - the real thing." - Blogcritics
