Chancel Arts presents Christmas Festival Concert featuring Illumni Men's Chorale
Join the Kent Lutheran Church Festival Choir under the direction of Sean Haley and Bell Ringers directed by Jane Wilson, and special guests the Illumni Men's Chorale and soloist Chris McCafferty for an afternoon of music, song, and inspired readings for the holiday season. This year's theme of "That Glorious Song of Olde (and New)" is sure to put people of all ages in the holiday spirit.
Illumni Men's Chorale is Seattle's newest choral sensation. The group was founded in 2009 to support a local scholarship fund, and moved forward with a mission to expand the audience for classical music and choral singing through innovative use of programming and fundraising. Their efforts have garnered national attention, including an interview on CNN/Headline News, appearances on local radio and television, and even a spot on Season 6 of NBC's America's Got Talent.
The group is a mix of all skill levels including professional singers, instrumentalists, and choral hobbyists who come together to "Just Sing!". They come from throughout the local area including as far away as Bellingham, Olympia, Poulsbo, and right here in Kent! With a vocal range that extends from G below Bass "Low C", to Soprano "High C" and higher, the group is able to approach an exceptional amount of repertoire; including a larger range than most mixed-voice choirs. Men in all phases of life are welcome to sing and the current age range of the group is from 24 to 86!
This year, Illumni is honored to be one of three local adult choirs invited to sing at the Northwest Convention of the American Choral Director's Association in March, and on January 4th they will perform a joint concert with Harvard Glee Club - the nation's oldest college choir, at Lagerquist Hall in Tacoma.
Chris McCafferty is a professional tenor by training, and is in demand as soloist and vocal coach. He is currently the Resident Tenor Soloist & Men's Vocal Coach for the Seattle Choral Company, the First Tenor Vocal Coach for the Seattle Men's Chorus, and maintains private voice studios in Seattle and Tacoma. He has performed locally with such groups as Seattle Opera, The Tudor Choir, Seattle Pro Musica, The Seattle First Baptist Sanctuary Choir, PLU's Choral Union, the Northwest Chamber Chorus, the Seattle Choral Company, the Seattle Symphony, and Choral Arts. Chris attended Pacific Lutheran University, where he worked towards a degree in Vocal Peformance, studying voice with Marsha Baldwin of Metropolitan Opera fame, and conducting with Herford award winner Dr Richard Sparks.
