Reach the Peaks is a strenuous 11 mile hiking challenge that will test participants to summit the three major peaks of Hanging Rock State Park, including Hanging Rock, Cook's Wall, and Moore's Knob. Sponsored by the Stokes County Arts Council and Friends of the Sauratown Mountains, registration will take place at the Visitor's Center Parking Lot from 8am to 10:30am, with all participants required to begin no later than 10:30am. $25 per person. Participants will receive an event t-shirt, trail map, post-hike meal, comfort/hospitality stop, and trail safety team sweeps every half hour. Participants will be provided a card to be punched at the completion of each summit. Those who complete the hike and punch card will receive a specially created embroidered patch, along with having their name listed on the Reach the Peaks Conquered page in the park Visitor's Center.
Apart from the Reach the Peaks Hike, Free Guided Children's Hikes will also be available every hour from 10am to 2pm by Hanging Rock State Park beginning at the Visitor's Center.
Plein Air Artists will be capturing the day through paintings that will be exhibited the month of October in the Visitors Center, with a reception scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4 from 5:30pm to 8pm. Hanging Rock State Park is the 2012 North Carolina State Park of the Year with over 7,000 acres of hiking trails, waterfalls, lake/beach/bathhouse, campground/cabins, visitors center, and Dan River access.
