Diane Ravitch is one of the great whistleblowers of our time. The Wall Street Journal calls her our "whistleblower extraordinaire."
Formerly the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, author of the best-selling "The Death and Life of the Great American School System and the now-classic Great School Wars: A History of the New York City Public Schools, Diane Ravitch draws on forty-plus years of research and experience to critique the most popular ideas for restructuring schools. In her new book, Reign of Error, she argues persuasively against those who claim our system is broken, beyond repair, and obsolete, and she makes an impassioned, fully reasoned call to stop the rising "privatization movement" that is draining students and funding from our public schools. She puts forth a chapter-by-chapter breakdown of what can be done to preserve public school education. She discusses in detail how to fix these problems.
BIO: Diane Ravitch is Research Professor of Education at New York University and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. Formerly she was Assistant Secretary of Education, prior to being appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board by the Clinton Administration. She blogs for Huffington Post.com and EDWeek.org, and is the author or editor of twenty some including The Death and Life of the Great American School System. Her articles have appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines. A native of Houston, Ravitch lives in Brooklyn, New York Philip Maldari, veteran KPFA Public Affairs Producer, now hosts the Sunday Morning Show.
