Ballet Now: CHICAGO REPERTORY BALLET
Artistic Director, Wade Schaaf
Now in its 8th Season, Chicago Repertory Ballet continues to grow in size and recognition. The evening will feature an exciting program of new works, including a season premiere, "Immortal Beloved" by choreographer Mariana Oliveira, with music by Beethoven, honoring the 250 anniversary of his birth. There will also be a premiere work by Artistic Director, Wade Schaaf, as well as an audience favorite to the music of Leroy Anderson.
Why do we call this series BALLET NOW? The evolution of ballet has brought us to a new era of choreography, one which blends the grace, lines and virtuosity of classical movement with the ideas and innovations of 20th century modern dance. The choreography challenges the dancer to blend multiple styles of training, pushing pointe dancers on and off balance and into new shapes that rise and fall with speed and fluidity. The sheer beauty of these highly trained bodies occupying space like huge unfolding paper fans, or spinning tops, or bouncing balls can be breathtaking. Inspiration is drawn from a wide range of issues that are current and relevant to the world we experience now, inviting us, as an audience, to understand, connect and celebrate all that is dance.
The program is appropriate for all ages.
Cash bar, light snacks, free parking right outside! Doors open for cocktails and socializing at 7:00.
