Comedy on Elm Street with Steve Sweeney, Bob Niles, Chris D., Francis Birch
NOTE: Because of a death in the family, Chris Zito will be replaced by Steve Sweeney. Known as "The Character King of Boston Comedy," Sweeneys keen dialect and character skills have made him a key figure on Bostons cultural landscape. Sweeney was raised in hard-scrabble, colorful Charlestown, and has carried its influences with him through a career thats included nearly 25 films, national television appearances, radio hosting, and thousands of nights headlining Bostons best comedy clubs. Sweeney has been a featured on major television shows including David Letterman, Evening at the Improv, Comics Come Home and Comedy Central, and starred in his own Boston-based sitcom, Park Street Under. His trademark political satire has earned him top host spots on Boston radio stations 100.7FM WZLX (Sweeneys Neighborhood) and 95.9FM WATD (Jay Mohr and Opie & Anthony.) In 2019, he starred in the indy film Sweeney Killing Sweeney, and also shot a one-man theatrical show called Steve Sweeney: Townie, that is scheduled for release on Amazon Prime in 2020.
Another great show comes to a great performance space in Millbury, Mass., courtesy of Scamps Comedy Productions. Bob Niles and Chris Zito top a bill of outstanding comedians, also including Chris D. and Francis Birch. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Showtime is 9:30 p.m. Bob Niles is a favorite comedian at the Elm and all over New England, headlining shows at comedy clubs, Elks clubs, Lions clubs, country clubs, Rotary clubs, and just regular traffic rotaries. He has lived an unusual and unorthodox life, and when he examines this life for people to see, the results are pure dynamite! Bob was just 20 years old when his first child was born, and his second child came when he was 46!! What happened in between gets looked at and the results are hilarious. Chris Zito has spent the last 30 years sharing observations with comedy fans and radio listeners all over the country. Known to many for his stint on a highly-rated morning show on WXLO in Worcester and 103.3 WODS in Boston, he returned this year to the live standup stage. Chris has also provided comic relief to the JR in the Morning Show on WZOU in Boston, and to drive-time shows on Detroit radio. Clean, funny, and upbeat, Zito delights audiences with his look at family, marriage, and the how much childhood has changed. Peabodys Chris Dimitrakopoulos, also called "Chris D." by the many people who can't pronounce his last name, has established himself as a Boston comedian on the rise. He works regularly at clubs and fundraisers. Hes won a slew of comedy contests including The North Shores Next Big Catch in Beverly and "Witch City Comedy Contest" in Salem, and finished as a finalist in the "Boynton's Standup Standoff" in Manchester, N.H. He has performed on shows with top Boston/national headliners including Tony V., Paul D'Angelo, Juston McKinney, and Joe Wong. Francis Birch was born into a robust Italian/Native American family with five older brothers and sisters. The runt of the litter, Birch has grown up and married and now has a clan of his own, He draws on both experiences for his comedy material which hes performed at private shows and club all over New England, including Headliners in Manchester, NH, the Dick Doherty Clubs, and at Comix at Foxwoods Resort in Conn.
