Don McAvoy & The Great Whatever at The Living Room at 35 East
What do you get when you mix (1) a prolific Irish/Polish/Catholic singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and son of a US Marine; (2) an agnostic, sarcastic, politically incorrect, bespectacled Italian/German bass player; and (3) a newlywed drummer with an encyclopedic memory and a huge collection of Star Wars memorabilia? You get Ribsy Records recording artists Don McAvoy & The Great Whatever®.
The Great Whatever includes lead vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Don McAvoy; bass guitarist and vocalist Marc Arot; and drummer/percussionist and vocalist Mike McAvoy.
Don McAvoy has written approximately 2,500 original songs and has won numerous songwriting awards. He was influenced by the classic rock of The Beatles, The Kinks, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen and also by the 1970s era of singer-songwriters.
The band's latest release, "Theres Time Between The Bridge & The Water" (2015) contains 23 well-written, accessible and well-produced original songs, in varied genres. The songs are a mixture of many different styles, tempos and instrumentations that appeal to all ages and musical tastes. Since most people flip from station to station when listening to their radios, DMCGW's music captures that need for the variety, melody and accessibility that people are longing for in this era where mostly all music sounds the same.
