An Evening with Jonatha Brooke
PUTNEY   Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present an evening with contemporary folk singer/songwriter, guitarist and pianist Jonatha Brooke at Next Stage on Sunday, March 22 at 7:30 pm.  Blending elements of folk, rock and pop, Jonatha's music features complex harmonies and poignant lyrics.

Jonatha began writing songs, recording and touring in the1980s with Jennifer Kimball while both were students at Amherst College in western Massachusetts. Originally called Jonatha and Jennifer, the duo changed their name to The Story, and released two CDs "Grace in Gravity" and "Angel in the House" in the early 1990s.

As a solo artist since 1994, Jonatha has released another dozen albums, ranging from the companion CD to her critically acclaimed, one woman, Off-Broadway show "My Mother Has Four Noses" to "The Works," an album of songs with lyrics written by Woody Guthrie and music composed by Jonatha.  Shes co-written songs with The Courtyard Hounds and Katy Perry, written for four Disney films and numerous television shows, and she composed and performed the theme song for Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse."  She has also written four musicals, as well as "My Mother Has Four Noses," her one woman play about her relationship with her mother, who suffered from dementia.

In 2018, Jonatha was awarded a McKnight Artist Fellowship Grant, and in 2019, she won the Overall Grand Prize, as well as the Best Female Artist category (for her song "Put the Gun Down"), in the 15th Annual IAMA (International Acoustic Music Awards) competition.  In addition to touring internationally in support of her latest release Imposter, Jonatha currently teaches songwriting workshops and runs her own record label Bad Dog Records.

Next Stage is located at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney, VT.  Tickets are $25 Advance / $28 At the Door.  Advance tickets are available at www.nextstagearts.org.  Next Stage will provide a beer and wine cash bar.  For more information, call 802-387-0102 or visit www.jonathabrooke.com, www.twilightmusic.org and www.nextstagearts.org.
