Home may be where the heart is, but it can be a dangerous place for older adults.
Every year, one in four older adults in the US fall and 20% of those falls result in significant injury that can trigger a descending spiral of dependence.
Join us so that you can learn to identify some common home hazards and about some dangers many people dont recognize - like medication management, isolation, and inadvertent misuse of prescribed and over-the-counter medications, supplements and alcohol. All of these factors can affect a persons ability to live independently.
You will learn what you can do to ameliorate your chances of falling.
Michelle Zulim-Clark teaches fall prevention and other health-related classes for SLO County. Linda Beck is a private elder and health advocate and community educator on health care safety, aging and caregiving.
