Kitchen Cupboard Chemistry
Masterchef meets molecules as we throw open the kitchen cupboard and reveal the secret science within. Use washing powder to create oxygen, get the CO2 out of your cake mix, stock up on hydrogen using nothing but lemon juice and vinegar and make some glue from skimmed milk. Lets put chemistry back in the kitchen! Take this opportunity to do some simple and informative chemistry experiments using chemicals, most of which can be purchased in a supermarket.
There will be 3 sessions for a maximum of 30 participants per session. The sessions are intended for children aged 7-12 (who will work in pairs) and will show the different properties of 3 simple gases which can be prepared in plastic test tubes in a mini laboratory setting. The sessions will be supervised by RSC Chemists and parents may watch (and assist) their children.
Recommended ages 7 - 11
Sessions are free, but you'll need to book a ticket in advance (donations may collected be on the day)
