Robert Curgenven + Cheer
Robert Curgenven is an Australian composer/sound artist living in Cornwall. His work spans immersive resonances via turntables and custom-made vinyl, instrumental harmonics and guitar feedback, through to carefully detailed field recordings from remote areas where he lived for many years. Drawing on the physicality of sound - and not just the physical impact on the body but the way in which the auditory can shape our perception of space and the flow of time The Wire surmises that "behind the musicto these ears at any ratelurk such [disparate] presences as Alvin Lucier, King Tubby, Murray Schafer and Eliane Radigue."

Cheer is the musical project of Glaswegian Alec Cheer who has released on Benbecula Records and Worthy Records and collaborated with Dom Dickson, Alastair Crosbie as well as animating music videos for Conquering Animal Sound and RM Hubbert. "Field recordings and shortwave radio generate grainy clouds, seeded with piano and acoustic guitar. The sense of purpose and patience makes it clear Cheer is not simply approaching drone as a form of stasis but is dedicated to the long view, luxuriating in slowly unfolding ideas. As JG Ballard was able to look at a snapshot of a reclining nude and, in his imagination, elongate the soft surfaces into a rolling desert landscape, so you get the impression that these sonic vistas could be the perfect pop song strectched out into sublime perspective."
