ANGELINA RAMIREZ is the founder and artistic director of Flamenco Por La Vida in Phoenix, Arizona. Along with performing and teaching, Angelina produces two festivals in Arizona, Lluvia Flamenca and The Phoenix Festival de España. Angelina also tours with world-renowned, New York based company Noche Flamenca. Angelina received the Arizona Commission on the Arts' Artist Research and Development Grant for her work and development of /SER/ in 2018. /SER/ is a flamenco project that explores what it means to be a queer, latinx flamenca, practicing in a traditional gitano form of dance. Angelina was selected to participate in the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures 2017 Leadership Institute. In 2016, Angelina was also selected to participate in the inaugural Creative Aging Teaching Artist Institute through the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Angelina was nominated for an Arizona Governors Arts Award in 2016 and her company Flamenco Por La Vida was awarded the 2014 Phoenix Mayor's Arts Award for Best Dance Organization.Angelina was selected as a choreographer to participate in Dance in the Desert: A Gathering of Latinx Dance Makers,creating a movement/performance art piece called MENUDO which debuted at the Baltinx Dance Festival in Phoenix and Los Angeles in 2019. Today Angelina is celebrating Flamenco Por La Vida's newest adventure in the grand opening of FPLV Dance Studios in Central Phoenix.
SAMIR OSORIO-LEON began his career in 2000 with Compañía Flamenca Ecos of Havana, Cuba as lead flamenco singer. He was a founder and lead singer of the Irene Rodríguez Company in 2012 and 2014; collaborator with the Ballet Español de Cuba from 2011 to 2014; and musical director for Lina Sanz Company in 2014. Since arriving in the United States in 2014, he has appeared with Carmona Flamenco, Oleaje Flamenco, and others in the Seattle area. Mr. Osorio-Leon resides in Tacoma, Washington. He is also a writer whose debut novel "Buscando el Sótano" was published in 2019.
