Bibliophilia Storytelling Festival
Join us for a three day extravaganza of words for word lovers! Bibliophilia is about the living book, each event combines poetry and prose with improvisational theatre to bring you fun, truly unique events. Celebrate the page coming to the stage April 17-19th at Hugo House. Showtimes: 7:30pm and 9pm, 5pm Sundays only.
FRIDAY VONNEGUT UNEXPECTED What better way to kick off Bibliophilia than with an improvised play based on the work of American writer and humanist Kurt Vonnegut (Cats Cradle, Slaughterhouse-Five and Breakfast of Champions)? In this event, the Bibliophilia Players will new create a fun, improvised (improvised meaning on-the-spot, thats right without a script!) play based on audience suggestions. Like Vonnegutknown for his satirical literary style, deconstruction of time, humor, and science-fiction elements the Players will tell a story by jumping around in time while exploring the lovely (and awful) things humans do. Doors: 7pm
*This event is in co-production with Unexpected Productions, creators of Unexpected Vonnegut.
LET ME TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT In advance, writers will be given a special writing prompt and create stories based on what they are given. They will get a genre, a relationship, and a plot point. They will create original work for the festival and read it for the audience. In between readings, improvisers will be given a challenge from the story generator as well. The improvisers will get a genre and/or author to emulate, a relationship, and a plot point and create three 10-minute stories. Doors: 8pm
SATURDAY POETRY VERSE PLAY Back by popular demand! This is the show where art doesn't imitate life, art imitates art. One poet comes to the stage sharing one of their works. Afterward the Bibliophilia Playersour team of improvisational actors, never hearing the poem before, will perform a one-act play inspired by the piece. Doors: 7pm
