Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District every third Friday of the month. Now in its 11th (or is it 12th?) year and showcasing an eclectic mix of intelligent comedians from the Bay Area and beyond, the event was created in order to bring back to life a comedy show that used to take place at El Rio in the 1980s and 1990s. The Bay Area Reporter (BAR) recently named the show Best Comedy Night for the second consecutive year.
The Friday February 21st show features Mickey Joseph, Chad Opitz, Geneva Rust-Orta, Jeanette Marin, and Lisa Geduldig. Mickey Joseph, a true veteran of the Bay Area comedy scene, began his career in 1984 at the Punch Line in San Francisco. He was a finalist in the 1998 San Francisco Comedy Competition and for 20 years headlined the hottest clubs throughout the Western US. He has had TV appearances on Americas Funniest People, Friday Night Videos, and Comedy Day in The Park and has opened for Willie Nelson, Huey Lewis and the News, Eddie Money, Air Supply, George Lopez, DL Hughley, Ellen Degeneres, Sam Kinison, Craig Ferguson, Bill Hicks, Lisa Lampanelli, Kevin Pollak, Gilbert Gottfried, Richard Lewis, Jimmy Walker, Robin Williams, and others. In 2004 Mickey penned his autobiography, What Would Don Corleone Do? a candid look at the Bay Area comedy scene and his single parenthood through the 80s and 90s. In 2005 he was cast in the critically acclaimed stage production, The Rat Pack Is Back! and performed the role of Joey Bishop nightly at the Rio in Las Vegas and in 110 cities across North America. He has been seen in commercials for Northern California Honda, Diners, Drive-Ins, And Dives, and Disneys Aladdin with basketball great, Steph Curry.
Chad Opitz is a comic whose hilarious and unique perspective is making him an oft-booked staple at Bay Area clubs and showcases. Veering between one-liners, short story jokes, and sometimes even song, Chads writing is as well-regarded as his character and performance work. He was a featured performer at the 2016, 2017 and 2018 San Francisco Sketchfest and hosted an episode of "The Guest List" on Audible Channels in 2017. Chad was a finalist in the Rooster T. Feathers Competition, semi-finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition, 2nd place finalist at the 2016 Sacramento Comedy Competition, and Winner of the Walk the Plank Comedy Competition. He has opened for Michelle Wolf, Scott Thompson, Gad Elmaleh, Greg Behrendt, and many more

While in England, she performed all over the UK and obtained the title of "Second Funniest Jew" at the 2015 Jewish Comedian of the Year Competition in London. She has taken two shows: Messed Up and Born with a Bush to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Geneva has performed at Cobbs, Punch Line, and SF Sketchfest and was recently featured on Comedy Central's Bay Area Clusterfest Showcase. She helps produce Resistance is Fertile, a monthly comedy show that features the best female comedy talent in San Francisco. You can find her at El Rio every 2nd Friday on her monthly show, Millennials Ruin Everything.

Some of her recent highlights include being selected for The International San Francisco Comedy Competition and as a featured comedian at the Cinequest Film Festival.
