Stories about famous people.
RACHEL GILL ----------------------- "Tyra Banks Married Me"
That night I prayed to the Sweet Baby Jesus! "God if I am supposed to marry this woman, please send me a sign ..." Two days later, I got an email asking if I wanted to audition for a Gay Wedding hosted by The Tyra Banks Show, and coordinated by celebrity David Tutera. This was the sign from GOD I wanted! Now how was he going to help me win this wedding?
DAN GEIGER ----------------------- "My Green Halloween with George Shultz"
How could I invite George Shultz to speak at our big Halloween gala? I, who in the 80's supported Salvadoran revolutionaries and was a fan of the Sandinistas, hanging out with Reagan's Secretary of State? For god's sake, the Reagan administration supported death squads that killed thousands! Would my friends still respect me? Could his appearance possibly do anything good for the world?
L. ABDUL-KENYATTA ----------------------- "I was impressed...but...my father considered Malcolm X a fraud"
I was ten years old the first time i saw the man in the bow tie speaking on the southwest corner of Lenox Avenue and 116th Street. He was not the first person i saw making speeches on that corner. All over Harlem there were street corner orators who could be heard outside subway stations. He was across the street - next to the newsstand where I bought my Batman and Superman comic books. As I was purchasing my comic books - I heard him say- "You are better than the white man." I had never heard that before. I was always told that I was equal to the white man but would have to work twice as hard to be acknowledged ... But ... there he was shouting - "You are better than the white man." I was like a fish caught in the fisherman's net. I met my father at that subway station every day. I started coming earlier- so i could listen to the man on the ladder, wearing the bow-tie.
ANDREA CARLA MICHAELS ----------------------- "John Lithgow cheated at Scattergories!"
So I sit down to play Scrabble and the chess clock has the name LITHGOW written across it. I ask the young Asian boy Im playing if this is his clock. No, he replies, its that womans over there..,
MARC HERSHON ----------------------- "Harry Anderson's Tattoo"
Magicians never reveal their secrets . . . unless they get drunk. Marc Hershon was carousing with the late, great comedy headliner Harry Anderson after a big show one night. The magician and con man revealed that he had just been cast in TVs Night Court and, in a fit of drunken reverie, involved Marc in a permanent practical joke that would play out for the next 20 years.
