Karl St. Lucy: Orion's Belt: Selections from "Different Stars."
In July 2011, Saint Lucy began writing songs for their first partner, Renaud. As the relationship deteriorated over the following year, Saint Lucy kept writing, amassing a catalogue of songs in an attempt to save the relationship.
With texts by William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and Saint Lucy themselves, the cycle wrestles with Shakespeares notion of love as a fixed and unchanging state of being. In a world where our first intimate queer relationships often seem doomed from the start, can we imagine what may have been possible if wed been born under different stars?
Saint Lucy's songs pull from Joni Mitchell, Rufus Wainwright, Leonard Bernstein, and Elton John as influences. Featuring James Jackson, Jr. (A Strange Loop), Danielle Buonaiuto, Victoria Huston-Elem, and Karl Saint Lucy; with Zac Selissen (guitar) and Genevieve Chapin (bass). Music by Karl Saint Lucy, guitar arrangements by Zac Selissen; words by Karl Saint Lucy, Oscar Wilde, and William Shakespeare.
