CANCELLED Brenda Linton and Elizabeth Haddix & Scott Holmes
Mar 21 Concert:
       Brenda Linton  celtic, folk
Brenda Lintons brand of music is both elemental and sophisticated. Her performances and songwriting reflect a range of genres from her earliest influences of classical and traditional music to coming-of-age protest songs and rhythm & blues to more recent affairs with jazz and world music. Linton is a master of the kind of versatile singing that alternately soothes and excites. Her amazing vocal abilities and connection with her audience result in live performances that are both uplifting and deeply moving. Linton's acapella renditions of Appalachian and  Celtic ballads are show-stoppers that leave listeners mesmerized by the purity of her voice and musical spirit.  Listening, one is transported by Lintons melodic voice back to a time when the world was truer to itself and music was judged by talent rather than fashion.

Elizabeth Haddix & Scott Holmes  conscious-raising lyrics in original songs, exceptional guitar and bass
"It is often tempting, in an effort to describe the work of a unique and exceptional artist, to say that Elizabeth Haddix simply defies categorization; even such terms as "sub-genre" struggle to suffice. But Haddix's songs, designed and delivered alternately on upright bass and acoustic guitar, distinctly color outside the traditional lines of jazz, rock, folk and blues. In the absence of tidy boxes, the listener has no choice but to accept the idea that this music "just is". Haddix's lyrics, poetic yet not poetry, brooding yet decidedly hopeful, speak at once with the probing innocence of the pupil and the comforting wisdom of the teacher - a beguiling guide whose accent you can't quite place." - Jason Merritt, Overdub Lane.  https://www.reverbnation.com/elizabethhaddix
Scott Holmes adds his extraordinary guitar licks and sweet harmonies to Elizabeths songs and contributes a few of his own originals too.
