Ybor City at Players Club
"Ybor City" is an experience! The original musical, with book by Anita Gonzalez and music and lyrics by Dan Furman, will be performed by a cast of 11 on two nights, February 10th and 25th, in the Great Hall at the Players Club in Gramercy Park, Manhattan.
The musical is set in the town of Tampa Florida in 1918. When Rafael comes to town to read newspapers for the factory workers, he falls for Teresa, the sister of union organizer Catalino. Romance blossoms, tensions rise, and when Catalino stands up for worker rights, violence erupts. The community struggles to unite against an abusive factory owner and collectively form a multi-racial union.
Director Vernice Miller and Movement Director Stefanie Batten Bland have created a sensuous and exciting mix of music, dance and politics that will take over and transform the space at the Players Club.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a public event at the Players Club, which is a historic PRIVATE club. There IS a dress code. As stated on their website:
"The clubhouses dress code is business casual.
