THE THREEPENNY OPERA, presented by Frank Theatre
Set in the underbelly of Victorian London at the height of decadence with its con men, thieves, prostitutes and corrupt officials, Brecht uses the love story between the criminal and anti-hero Macheath and Polly Peachum (much to the consternation of her father Mr. Peachum who controls the town's beggars) to satirize the bourgeois values of Weimar Germany. Thanks to the machinations of Mr. Peachum, Macheath is not only arrested but sent to the gallows only to be saved via a deus ex machina pardon from the Queen.
