Celtic Community Night with Erik Killops and Tracy Rose Brown
Connecting Celtic Appreciators in Portland PORTLAND CELTIC COMMUNITY NIGHT Second Wednesday every month.
The goal is simple: Create a stronger, vibrant, and more unified community of Celtic musicians, dancers, and artists, and appreciators within the Portland, Oregon region. By hosting evenings that include performances by local and regional bands and artists, followed by an open traditional music and dance session, we can help foster a fun and inclusive environment where everyone can appreciate and participate in Celtic culture.
February's event will feature two of the most recognizable instruments in the Celtic world - the harp and fiddle. Tracey and Erik will take us on a journey of song and instrumental music that showcases their range of sound.
Following their performance will be a community traditional music session open to all voices and instruments where you'll have a chance to play and sing and dance side by side with Erik and Tracey.
Admission is on a sliding scale of $7-15 at the door or in advance on brown paper tickets. Artichoke Cafe offers cold and warm drinks to enjoy during the show and session.
ARTIST BIOS
Erik Killops is a native Portlander and high energy fiddle player who earned a degree in Traditional Music at the University of Limerick in Ireland. He began fiddle at a young age and was inspired by Dan Compton, Kevin Burke and some of the Irish greats like Tommy and Siobhan Peoples, and now yields his own style and musical voice in Oregon's trad music scene. He is often heard performing with accomplished Portland-based band Na Rosai.
Canadian Tracey Rose Brown, grew up studying classical piano, playing folk guitar and singing. At 20 she travelled to Brittany, then spent copious amounts of time listening to the music of French Harp player Alan Stivel, leading her to take up harp, gigging locally, and ending up landing a touring gig with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as a ship harpist, playing an array of styles drawing on classical roots, a passion for Celtic music, Renn dance music (and doing up arrangements of contemporary tunes).
This combo of fiddle, harp and voice will be a blend of various influences, from fast paced Irish dance tunes to harp sounds of Celtic Brittany and a gaelic aires.
