A Tribute to the Music of the Carter Family with OldHat Stringband & Susie Burke & David Surette:
The music of the Carter Family is an essential part of American roots music, Their repertoire, recordings, and live and radio performances established them as one of the earliest national stars of the country music world of the 1920s and 30s, and their music has exerted a deep influence on old-time and bluegrass, folk, and popular music, which continues to this day. Many of their songs have become country and bluegrass standards, and their music has been revived at key points with projects such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands Will The Circle Be Unbroken and the hit film Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Two of the Seacoasts top folk/roots groups, OldHat Stringband and Susie Burke & David Surette, join together to present a tribute to the Carters with an evening of their music. Folk ballads, country blues, gospel ships, stringband breakdowns, love gone wrong, spine-tingling harmonies and classic country picking inspired by one of the most influential guitarists of the early days of country music, this show is one not to miss!
