Familiars
FAMILIARS is a tender spell and a rebel yell - that conjures magic through creativity. Divined collaboratively by dance artists Ziyian Kwan, Kelly McInnes, Rianne Svelnis and Taiko artist Eileen Kage, performances unfold in a field house in a city park.
Audiences are invited to experience sensory alchemy that is at once radical and whimsical. Defying derogatory uses of the word witch to instead tell truths about kinship with self, other people, natural and unnatural worlds, the simple equation is this: If art reveals the unknown and is therefore connected to magic or witchcraft, then we as performers and audiences, are contemporary witches of our own making, investing in live art as political action that embodies resistance and healing.
