LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO: An Evening of Afro-Peruvian Jazz Fusion with THE YURI JUAREZ QUINTET in Concert
The popular monthly LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO music series continues on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 8:00pm with a wonderful & special Afro-Peruvian Jazz fusion concert with acclaimed Peruvian guitarist, arranger & composer Yuri Juárez & his equally accomplished musicians. The Yuri Juárez Quintet includes pianist Renato Diz, bassist Moto Fukushima, drummer Shirazette Tinnin and cajon player & percussionist Héctor Morales. Teatro Sí brings to you this cultural opportunity at the stage at the unique & cozy MONDO venue, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ.
The merger of Afro-Peruvian rhythms and styles with jazz is an increasingly fertile forum and guitarist Juárez makes a notable contribution along with the highly ambitious talents of his fellow band members.
In November of 2008 Yuri released his first album recording. The Afroperuano album has its own special repertoire including important composers such as Chabuca Granda, Carlos Hayre and Chucho Valdes. It has achieved great success in domestic and international criticism.
In December of 2009 he relocates to New York City where he wins at the Latin Jazz Corner Awards in the categories of Best Afro-Peruvian Jazz Album and Best Latin Jazz Guitarist for the debut of the Afroperuano album.
In 2012 he releases Tangolandó with Argentinean singer Sofia Tosello. This album is the first encounter of traditional Argentinean tangos with Afro-Peruvian rhythms. This album was nominated for the Independent Music Awards in 2013.
The Guitar Sapiens album release in 2016 is his lifetime project where he puts together all his 20 years of experience as a performer and composer. This is a huge orchestral and ensemble project, a double album which blends Classical, Jazz, Flamenco, Brazilian, Tango and Afro-Peruvian music influences. The suite "Hayre" and "Gitanos y Criollos" are two captivating examples of those influences.
