Taiko Swingposium on the Road
Taiko Swing Humboldt (a program of Humboldt Folklife Society) is hosting SWINGPOSIUM ON THE ROAD by San Jose Taiko. Swingposium is a tribute to big band music and swing dance set in a mess hall at a WWII Japanese American incarceration camp, where guests become part of the narrative from the inside.
This 90-minute immersive, 360-degree, theatrical experience was created by San Jose Taiko in cooperation with Epic Immersive and is brought to Humboldt County in a collaborative effort with local musicians and performers.
Taiko Swing Humboldt is bringing together the local Asian American community uniting around current issues. Illegal mass incarceration of families is a relevant civil rights issue, since history is repeating itself.
As part of Swingposium on the Road, San Jose Taiko partners with local jazz musicians, swing dancers, and performers. San Jose Taiko provides resources and in-person guidance to build artistic capacity and programs that share the stories of the Asian American experience.
Each performance will begin with a 30-minute Talk Story.
We encourage attendees to wear 1940's inspired outfits!
