High Step Society | Free Creatures

When the honeyed tones of The Jazz Age meld with hottest beat drops of the new millennium, you get High Step Societys elixir of live Electro Swing. Grandma remembers when she listened to jazz giants on the old Victrola. Grandkids feel the bass beats deep in their chest cavity. Merging dance music from our past with sounds for the future, High Step Society features a shimmering horn section that soars over syncopated high hats and rat-a-tat snare. The kids in the band are electronic music producers as well as educated jazz musicians. Audaciously sophisticated, High Step Society is rethinking jazz with unorthodox arrangements, and bringing a touch of elegance to electronic music.

In 2017 we played at Lucidity, Enchanted Forest, Oregon Country Fair, What the Festival?!, Imagine (Orcas Island), Symbiosis Global Eclipse Gathering, and headlined the Whiteaker Block Party in Eugene. In 2018 we played Upstream Festival, Enchanted Forest, Oregon Country Fair, Summer Meltdown and Burning Man.

We have provided direct support for Dirtwire, March Fourth, Zion I crew, and the Polish Ambassador. We have played many large themed/holiday events in the Portland area such as Vote for Dancing, and Phantom PDX. In November 2017, we were flown to Calgary to take part in a sold-out signature production of Cirque De La Nuit, and are planning future collaborations with that company. Also, in May 2018 we did a full-length production of Alice in Wonderland with Ballet Fantastique in Eugene, in which they produced an all-original choreographed ballet to our music.

So far we have self-released one full-length album, entitled 'High Step Society', in January of 2017. We also put out a series of remixes of this album on Swing Set Sounds, which has been created in collaboration with 12 producers worldwide. We are currently working on our second full-length album, to be released in 2020.
