"Art as Citizen"
Panelists: Atlanta editors Catherine Fox and Debbie Michaud, with leaders of the Beltline, Goat Farm Arts Center, Dashboard Co-op, Living Walls, Flux Projects, and artists of glo.
A greater number of emerging cultural organizations are investing in interdependent relationships with the public through the re-imagining of spaces outside traditional venues. In the desire for the pleasure of understanding something new and communicating it to others, these organizations project public art as an urgent and visceral citizen, "one of us". This democratic approach to art and citizen creates debate in the public between the imaginary and the real. Situated in temporary zones, the artist and public create a system to assume multiple and ever changing identities, The distance between "us" and "them" becomes less specific, vague and less important. Investing in these alternative methods and places to deliver art are changing a community's perception of what can achieve. The TanzFEED series provides spirited dialogue and debate between curators, writers and artists experimenting with new ideas and forms. These open discussions are shaped in response to a need for an intimate space in which meaningful dialogue can occur with the public. FEED is dedicated to revealing bridges between visual art practice and its resonance in contemporary performance and thought.
