Permaculture Skill Builder Series
Green Valley CSA is excited to introduce a new series starting in September. The Permaculture Skill Builder Series will go through the basics of permaculture principles as well as hands on activities. Each workshop is designed to build on each other, but can be taken individually. You will leave the series with confidence to start your own permaculture garden or project. Bring a lunch,water, sunscreen etc.

Sept 7 Intro to Permaculture: We will cover the history, ethics and principles of permaculture design. Practise skills in observation and mapping. Sept 14 Tending the permaculture garden - Propagation and Liquid Preps. Choosing the right plants and building your stock. Perennial plants versus annuals and self seeders. Gathering the nutrients to maintain healthy plants. Making and applying your own rooting hormone, kelp tea, compost tea, fermented plant juice. Sept 21 -Passive rainwater harvesting strategies. Learn about siting, designing, layout of swales using various techniques. We will learn how to lay a swale with a homemade level and laser level. We will also construct the swales during the workshop. Sept 28 Starting the Garden Exploring soil prep methods We will cover raised beds, sheet mulching, double digging, and other garden bed preparations. After this session you will know how to start a garden from scratch. Oct 5 Active Water Harvesting Install rainwater catchment for your house or garden. We will discuss options including gravity feed, solar pump systems, natural ponds and ferrow cement tanks. We will also cover the basics of grey water useage.
Green Valley Village is an intentional community of 40 families and individuals in rural Sebastopol, near the Russian River. We manage over 300 acres of forests and farmlands, livestock, and vineyards, conventional housing and natural building projects.
We are currently focusing on conversion of conventional organic practices to incorporate permaculture principles. We are excited to invite our community to participate and learn with us during this special time of design and creation.
