Tamir Hendelman Solo Piano Concert- The Music of Harold Arlen and Jerome Kern
PQ Sessions and the Jazz Plus series present:
Tribute to Harold Arlen and Jerome Kern
Pianist-composer Tamir Hendelman performs an evening of solo piano interpretations of songs by Harold Arlen and Jerome Kern on a Louis XV Steinway masterfully rebuilt by David Andersen. Award-winning pianist-composer Tamir Hendelman brings an evening of solo piano jazz classics to the Sherman Oaks home of an art and music lover, performing on a masterfully rebuilt Louis XV 1925 Steinway B, courtesy of piano technician extraordinaire David Andersen.
The evening will be dedicated to the music of two pillars of the Great American Songbook- the authors of songs such as All The Things You Are, Over The Rainbow, It's Only A Paper Moon and the Way You Look Tonight.
Jerome Kern was one of the most important American theatrecomposers, whose more than 700 songs were used in over 100 stage works. He created dozens of Broadway musicals in a career that spanned more than four decades. His musical innovations built on, rather than rejected, earlier musical theatre tradition. He and his collaborators also employed his melodies to further the action or develop characterization, creating the model for later musicals. All The Things You Are, The Way You Look Tonight and Yesterdays are a few of his legendary creations, and his collaborations with Oscar Hammerstein, Otto Harbach and Dorothy Fields and Johnny Mercer were key to his creative output.
Harold Arlen composed over 500 songs, including the songs for 1939's The Wizard of Oz. He is a highly regarded contributor to the Great American Songbook, having written two of Judy Garland's career-defining songs, Over The Rainbow and the Man That Got Away, and his collaboration with Ted Koeler birthed the familiar standards "Let's Fall In Love" and "Stormy Weather."
Tamir Hendelman is known as a leader of his own trio with two jazz chart topping releases under his name, as well as a long-time member of the Jeff Hamilton Trio and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and has performed and recorded with vocalists Roberta Gambarini, Natalie Cole, Tierney Sutton and Barbra Streisand. He has performed with orchestras, including a new rendition of Rhapsody In Blue- and given solo and duo recitals celebrating the music of Cole Porter, Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie and more. Most recently, he has led interdisciplinary arts workshops at schools such as Oberlin, Idyllwild Academy and the Cranbrook Academy- weaving performances which combine film/dance/theatre/creative writing and music.
