Writing Sketch Comedy - Wednesday - Feb/March 2020
Students will learn the basics of sketch comedy writing in this introductory course. Every week students will be introduced to different types of sketch and with these tools will be able to create their own characters, relationships and scenes. This class can also provide weekly accountability for current stand-up comedians looking to add new characters or dimension into their body of work; either to their live performances or web series. After the five course students will have a beginning portfolio of at least five original sketches.

The course will give students the opportunity to spend five weeks in a supportive environment while learning the fundamentals necessary to write sketch comedy.

The course is founded on the comedy principles of the critically acclaimed Lincoln Lodge, a national leader in cultivating and developing new comedy talent. Join one of Chicago's top comics, Stephanie Weber, for a course in writing sketch comedy offered by the locally and nationally revered Lincoln Lodge, Chicago's top stand-up and variety showcase.

Instructor Stephanie Weber is a writer and comedian with work on Reductress, Mental Floss, The AV Club, National Lampoon and more. She runs the show Chicago Underground Comedy and is a cast member at The Lincoln Lodge. She was previously in the award-winning sketch troupe Warm Milk and made sketch videos with millions of views for Muck House.

The six weekly 2 hour sessions of this course will focus on:
Sketch structure
Finding characters and POVs
Expanding relationships within scenes
Building multi-dimensional scenes
Creating a sketch portfolio
Staged reading

The class requires no previous sketch comedy or writing experience and culminates with a presentation of the material developed in class.
