Sukkah City at the Mandel JCC's Cleveland Jewish FilmFest
SUKKAH CITY Friday, October 4, 1:00 PM, Cedar Lee Theatre Director: Jason Hutt United States, English, 2013, 67 minutes Documentary
Built as a temporary ritual dwelling, a sukkah does not generally inspire its builders with too many aesthetic considerations. But in 2010, New York reporter Joshua Foer and his colleague Roger Bennett decided to try something new: a Sukkah competition. Sukkah City documents the experience of the participants, the judges and the drama that followed as the winning design teams moved from concept to construction. The resulting structures featured cardboard signs, wire, twine, tree trunks, reeds and glass structures. Once you watch Sukkah City you'll never look at a sukkah the same way again.
