Ása Hjörleifsdóttir Iceland, Estonia & Germany 2017 1h 31m Series - Áberandi og bitastæðar: Women in Icelandic Cinema
About Based on a novel by Guðbergur Bergsson, one of Icelands leading modernist writers, The Swan is Ása Hjörleifsdóttirs (b. 1984) feature film debut. The adaptation was written during Ásas time in film school and is the coming-of-age story of 9-year-old Sól, who is sent to the countryside for the summer after she is caught shoplifting. Ása has remarked that her path to directing was winding, and with few domestic women role models, was one she ultimately had to forge for herself.
