End-of-Year-Donation to Thinking Cap Theatre
As Thinking Cap Theatre (TCT) approaches ten years of producing bold, breath-taking, and thought-provoking theatre, TCT needs the support of its community, near and far, now more than ever. For a small, professional non-profit theatre company such as ours to have endured this long is remarkable. We can hardly believe it ourselves!
TCT has endured, in part, because it has a strong, distinct, and much-needed mission:
We produce plays that depart from convention, plays that most theatre companies in our region and beyond would not take the risk to stage, plays that keep the art form fresh and alive through their experiments with dramatic form and their investigation of complex, often progressive, feminist, and LGBTQ-focused issues and themes. Cleansed by Sarah Kane; Waafrika by Nick Mwaluko; The Realistic Joneses by Will Eno; Grounded by George Brandt; Church and Straight White Men by Young Jean Lee; Collective Rage by Jen Silverman; Crooked by Catherine Trieschmann; Dance Nation by Clare Barron: these plays and others comprise Thinking Cap Theatre's body of work and unequivocally represent our mission.
We also produce well-known and rarely staged classical plays, from The Importance of Being Earnest and King Lear, to The Rover and The Emperor of the Moon, in a style and manner that strives to bridge the gap between tradition, artistic experimentation, and audience accessibility.
Finally and fundamentally, we produce plays and hire casts and creative teams that reflect the diversity of the world within which we live. We have been preaching AND practicing "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" since our inception in 2010. We are thrilled to see these basic, humane, and long-overdue practices becoming more manifest throughout American and world theatre.
All of the above and more: TCT has been doing it for a decade.
Unconventional. Unexpected. Unafraid. This is Thinking Cap Theatre: Theatre for RIGHT NOW.
Thanks for reading this. Thanks for supporting our mission. Thanks for helping to spread the word about our work, our upcoming 2020 season, and our fundraising call to action.
Sincerely,
Nicole Stodard Founding Artistic Director
