Master Theater of The Oppressed Intensive
Master Theater of the Oppressed practitioner and Founding Artistic Director of Falconworks Theater Company will be giving an all-day lecture/workshop in the methodologies of devising interactive theater for communities of struggle. No theater experience is necessary.

Sliding Scale Admission: $0 - $250

We ask organizations to please sponsor their staff to attend this rare training opportunity with this award-winning theater artists

What to expect!


In the morning session (12 PM - 2:30 PM) participants will learn both games and the theories behind them for promoting ensemble. The group will also select common forms of oppression they consider relevant.



In the afternoon session (3:00 PM - 5:30 PM), participants will create tableaus, known in Theatre of the Oppressed as images, to illustrate common forms of oppression selected in the morning session.



The workshop closes with a public presentation (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM) using materials generated in the afternoon session. The presentation will include a demonstration of the Forum Theatre technique of Theatre of the Oppressed, where the audience is invited to the stage. Participants will learn, and see in practice, techniques for moderating community discussions. The presentation will be free admission and the location is to be determined.


Participants are asked to bring food and water.

No experience is required, but participants are expected to participate to the fullest of the ability.

The workshop will be held at Cora Dance, 358 Van Brunt Street, Brooklyn, 11231.

The cost is sliding scale $0 - $250 and we are asking organizations to please sponsor their staff and community members. We also hope our community partner organizations will consider paying staff for their training time.


Participants can bring cash, a check or pay by credit card via Brown Paper Tickets.

Please pay what you can afford. No one will be turned away for inability to pay.
