My Little Planet: A Performance by Agnieszka Polska
Sat Feb 15: 2.00pm
Series - Visiting Artists Discussion ** Co-presented with Frye Art Museum on the occasion of their exhibition Agnieszka Polska: Love Bite **
In conjunction with her exhibition Love Bite, artist Agnieszka Polska presents My Little Planet, a quasi-scientific performative audio-visual presentation exploring the arbitrariness of societal norms. Following the 20-minute performance, Polska will be joined by curator Amanda Donnan and Princeton University historian of science D. Graham Burnett for a conversation on the conjunction of poetry, scientific theory, and attentional manipulation in her work.
About the panel: Agnieszka Polska lives and works in Krakow and Berlin. Polska has presented her works at international venues including the New Museum and MoMA in New York, Centre Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Tate Modern in London, Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, and Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. She also took part in the 57th Venice Biennale, 11th Gwangju Biennale, 19th Biennale of Sydney and 13th Istanbul Biennial. In 2018 she was awarded German Preis der Nationalgalerie.
D. Graham Burnett works at the intersection of historical inquiry and artistic practice. He is interested in experimental/experiential approaches to textual material, pedagogical modes, and hermeneutic activities traditionally associated with the research humanities. Burnett trained in History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge University, and is a Professor of History at Princeton University. He has been an editor at the Brooklyn-based Cabinet magazine since 2007, and is the author of a number of books and essays.
Amanda Donnan is curator at Frye Art Museum and the organizer of Agnieszka Polska: Love Bite.
